Mark Beese

Mark Beese is Director of Marketing for Holland & Hart LLP a 350 attorney law firm with offices throughout the Mountain West of the United States. Based in Denver, Colorado the firm has 12 offices in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Washington D.C. Holland & Hart is the only “AmLaw 200” firm based in the Rocky Mountain region. The firm has several affiliated services, including an in-house trial consulting and graphics firm, Persuasion Strategies, and an on-line compliance training system called HHCMS.

In 2002, the marketing team of Holland & Hart transformed itself into an in-house marketing agency called Imaginate. Imaginate provides a wide range of marketing, advertising, public relations, graphic design, e-marketing, and consulting services to the attorneys and affiliated services of the firm. In 2003, the Marketing Partner Forum named Mark and his team “Marketing Director of the Year”. Imaginate and Holland & Hart also received the “IQ Award” for innovation by the Boulder County Business Report in 2002.

In 2005, American Lawyer Media’s “Marketing the Law Firm Journal” named Holland & Hart among the top 20 law firms in the United States for marketing excellence. In 2006, the Legal Marketing Association bestowed two “Your Honor Awards” to Holland & Hart; one for community involvement and one for their branding progam. IOMA’s “Partners Report for Law Firm Owners” featured Holland & Hart’s Imaginate in its “Exercising Leadership” section in the April, 2006 issue. In May, 2006, Holland & Hart’s web site, www.hollandhart.com, was named the top law firm web site in the United States, by internetmarketingattorney.com, and received a “Nifty Fifty” award from the same organization.

Prior to joining Holland & Hart, Mark served as Director of Marketing for the New York law firm of Hodgson Russ, LLP and Director of Marketing for Kideney Architects in Buffalo, New York.

Mark received his B.S. and M.B.A. (cum laude) from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a graduate of two community leadership programs, Leadership Denver and Leadership Buffalo. He is President of the Rocky Mountain Legal Marketing Association. He is also the co-chair of the Marketing Committee of Terralex, an international association of independent law firms in 93 countries. He serves as a faculty member of the Marketing Directors Institute and is a frequent speaker at the Marketing Partner Forum and the Legal Marketing Association conferences. Mark is the former chair of the national LMA Your Honor Award Program and judge in the Marketing Partner Forum Elite Awards for Marketing Excellence and the Association of Accounting Marketing Awards Program. He is a frequent contributor to the ABA’s Law Practice Magazine and Managing Partner Magazine.

He volunteers with the Metro Denver Sports Commission (International Exploratory Committee) and the Daniels Fund. He serves on the Board of Directors for Evergreen Academy. He is the former chair of the Leadership Denver Alumni Association, and a past board member of the Denver Metro Chamber Foundation. In 2005, the Denver Business Journal named Mark as one of Denver’s 40 under Forty leaders.

In his spare time, he writes on leadership issues for lawyers on his blog,
www.leadershipforlawyers.typepad.com, which is now part of the Law.com network of legal blogs.

Married to Denise, he has three children, Emily (10) Ben (7) and Hannah (1). They live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Evergreen, Colorado.
